Out of suffering have emerged the strongest souls; the most massive characters are seared with scars.
— Khalil Gibran

Do you feel trapped? Hemmed in? Do you find that the cycle continues even when you don’t want it to? Even when you have hurt those closest to you, you turn back to it again. Perhaps working diligently to keep your struggle hidden, a secret.

Impulsive behavior can look like a lot of different things: alcohol, anger, drugs, emotionally closing off, food, pornography, technology (ie. phone, internet, video gaming), work and others. The origin of the behavior is potentially rooted in something you don’t desire to face. Your biggest barrier, shame. Uncovering the origin and healing that wound is critical. For example, if that behavior is pornography perhaps you were introduced before you were old enough to drink, old enough to vote, or even old enough to drive a car. For many men they saw some form of pornography before even hitting double digits in age. Introduction to something so powerful at such a young age, well before the human brain reaches full development, it is no wonder that other problems probably followed like alcohol, anxiety, confusion, depression, and impulsive acting out. Your story could just as easily include having been exposed to anger, emotionally closing off, perfectionism, or more. The key to unlocking your healing is connected to the rewiring of your brain, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and in instances your bodies attachment to chemicals released that make the act desirable.

The more we value things, the less we value ourselves.
— Bruce Lee

When pain is to be born, a little courage helps more than much knowledge, a little human sympathy more than much courage, and the least tincture of the love of God more than all.
